VI. 2012 ANNUAL REPORT

A vibrant public library is an essential part of a vibrant community. Seguin's public library is a wonderful asset for the city and surrounding area. The Public Library Foundation seeks to help that asset continue to provide the materials and services our community needs.

The Public Library Foundation raises funds for a permanent endowment, the investment return from which benefits the Seguin-Guadalupe County Public Library. The Foundation is now in its twenty-second year of operation and as of December 31, 2012, its endowment stood at $603,112. Since its founding in 1991, the Foundation has provided in excess of $229,700 in support for the Library and in 2012 gave $21,083 to the Library.

Among the Foundation's 2012 gifts to the library were subscriptions to Investor's Business Daily, Morningstar ETF Investor, Value Line, Morningstar, Barron's, and The Weiss Street Ratings for Stock Investing. Further, the gift provided large print materials, audio books, several computers, a printer, wireless access points and a rug for use during Toddler Time and Story Hour. Performance site licenses allowing the library to show motion pictures from a variety of studios for family movie events were also purchased. The Library's subscription to OverDrive for downloadable materials was renewed. Funding from the Foundation does not replace public funding from the City or County. Rather it is intended to enhance the resources and services provided.

The Foundation received $5436 in gifts, memorials and bequests from individuals and businesses during 2012.

In addition to an annual gift there are several ways you can assist The Foundation. Gifts in honor of a special occasion or person and memorials remembering loved ones are always appropriate. A gift of appreciated stock not only benefits The Foundation but may also provide you with a tax advantage. Finally, if you wish to provide a lasting legacy which will benefit Seguin and the surrounding area in perpetuity, you can do so by including The Public Library Foundation in your estate plans. A deferred gift enables you to help the Library more than you might be able to in your lifetime, and to go on helping after you have passed away. You can do this by making a bequest to The Seguin Guadalupe County Public Library Foundation. Please consult your estate planning advisors for details on how to accomplish this.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Corporation. Each gift or bequest to the Endowment is added to the principal and unless the donor specifies otherwise, no portion is appropriated for expenditure. Gifts to The Foundation are tax deductible within the limits of the law.

VII. THE FINANCIAL GOAL

The financial goal of The Foundation is to provide, over a period of years, an endowment of at least $1,000,000. This will require many generous gifts. Gifts to The Foundation will be added to the principal of the endowment. As of January 1, 2005, The Foundation had reached nearly sixty percent of its minimum financial goal of $1,000,000.
